A Freedom Prayer (for White People)

Friends in Clifton open their home, their hearts, and their fridge (!) to visitors from Lithuania.

Good God of all beauty, justice, peace and love:

Free us from beliefs that perpetuate the lie of white supremacy.
Free us from the depths of our misunderstanding.
Free us from carelessness, complacency, and conformity.
Free us from the temptation to belittle voices different from our own.
Free us from bound tongues and toxic passivity.
Free us from our blindness, just as you did Bartimaeus.
Free us from economic systems that elevate some while dehumanizing others.
Free us from perfectionism.
Free us from our habits of machine-level efficiency.
Free us from the confines of binary thinking.
Free us from our tendency to demonize people who act in ignorance.
Free us from the shame and guilt that stunts our growth and limits our advocacy.

Heap your mercy upon us, God.
Forgive us our mistakes and shortcomings.
Help us move more fully in your grace with compassion.
Offer us Kingdom imagination.
Lead us each day towards your truth and light.

Amen

Most merciful God, I confess...
