Monastic communities throughout the ages have practiced the Liturgy of the Hours, a daily set of prayers, songs, and readings. These sacred rhythms are kept by individuals but proclaimed by the collective, uniting communities across the ages and around the world in soulful dialogue. Inspired by this ancient tradition, I’ve shaped a city liturgy, a set of seven practices to be explored alone, together. You may adapt the liturgy below as you wish, though I encourage you not to stray too far from the intent of each practice. In a time when we’re encouraged to distance, my hope is that this may simply be one more thread to connect us. In a time when we’re confronted with the illusion that our lives are ours to control, may these practices help us sense a deeper peace. Let it be so.
